Close-Up

This month's theme for the Sketchbook Challenge was Close-up so here is what I came up with. I cut a square in a piece of red card and tried to find interesting sections of some of my favourite zentangle pages.

I also wanted to remember the bag that I have used for the whole of February which I bought on my holiday last August in mallorca, however one of the straps holding the main handel for the bag has shredded and I will need to repair it before using again, I guess you really can overload a bag too much.

Been drawing again

Since the year 11's have just been given their exam papers this week we set up a still life for them to start off their coursework for it. Included in the set up were two masks my parents brought back from their cruise. Here is my drawing of one of them...

I think it came out quite nice. I've made a tracing of it to scan in and turn into a repeated pattern so hopefully I can show that to you soon too.

I also added some more doodles to an unfinished page in my sketchbook, am thinking of adding colour but am not sure as yet.

And here is another page I recently created using some wallpaper.

Sketchbook

I finally took a picture of something I see almost every day when walking home after picking Joey up from school. Here is what seeme to be a very rusty spanner sitting on top of someones wall. This will be my entry for the Sketchbook Challenge's December challenge 'Trashed, Ruined and Decay' once I've re-drawn it into my sketchbook that is...

Blank template

Thought it might be nice to see what my followers would create using this template... I used it vertically/portrait however I originally drew it horizontally/landscape so what would you do with it?

Sketchbook Pages and Challenges

This month's theme on The Sketchbook Challenge is 'Imaginary animals' in respect that most animal drawings do not turn out to actually look like the animal or are cartoonish in style. Here is mine:

I also created this under-water scene for a challenge on Facebook's Doodler's Team for Fantasy Cityscape and submitted both images:

Unfortunately the image I first started working on hasn't grown very much as I've been unable to create depth and background as yet, I will hopefully post when it is complete!

View

October's theme on Sketchbook Challenge was 'View' so I first started by viewing my everyday surroundings differently and captured a few images of my pepsi swirling in its glass:

I then viewed my tangles in a different way and tried enlarging them:

And finally I chose to create this eye view of tangles using the shape from a tangled eye image that unfortunately I cannot currently find:

Getting Tangled

I think I've been getting better at my tangling as I've now created a few more pages to add to my image library for my Etsy store, and create them as cross stitch patterns although finding Jane Greenoff's new cross stitch programme very hard to save anything. Anyone out there got any tips, looking to get them to save as PDF format...

Anyway, here are my recent tangles!

Craft Club - picture heavy

Today I've made up a logo for a craft club I am hoping to run very soon at the Secondary School I work in. It has also become my next piece for my sketchbook challenge. The idea of the logo has 'UNFURLED' throughout these stages to the finished product... Might even have to get some t-shirts made now.

Step 1 - in my sketchbook:

Everyday Objects

Here are my pages for this month's sketchbook challenge 'Everyday Objects'. I've chosen to draw the most important thing in my handbag that I have to have with me no matter what. That is - my mobile phone. Even though it is fabulous in every way and has internet etc on it, it is purely the fact that I do not have a landline at home and my mobile is my connection to the outside world and my only way of getting help in an emergency. So here is my lovely lifesaver! In two versions, one a simple drawing and the other a web of tangles...

Here are a couple more pages for the Sketchbook Challenge this month. First one is the Water element using my blues and greens letraset promarkers and fine liner pens. Second one is using the bleedthru of Water element to create Air element.

Bleedthrumanade #7 back - Turtle Play

I have finished another manade! Following the theme Pathways for the Sketchbook Challenge I went back to some pages from last month when I tried some new equipment, Letraset ProMarkers. I felt as though I had 'failed' my first attempts with a bleedthrumanade as shown beautifully by Molossus, so for this month my path led me back and I retried working with bleedthru. Here are the stages for Turtle Play, which used the promarker bleedthru from the previous page, fineliner 0.1, berol fine black pen, white stabilo gel pen.

Pictures are all clickable.

I was a little worried that the bubbles wouldn't show up very well but I like the faded appearance of some of them so to me it looks great! Thanks for the tutorial on bubbles Molossus! I didn't add any other colour to them but did use kidney bean shapes for the reflections.
