Printed fabric

Hey guys! Here are the pics of my lovely printed fabric I picked up today. It's not the fabric design for my print but has some ideas with which I can progress with.

Number one is the cross-stitch print although a lot smaller than it needs to be. I've pleated it on the stand to get some design ideas:

Number two is the largest of my prints, and I will develop this by making it much, much smaller. Here I've draped it on the back of the stand for a dress look:

And the same print but gathered at the front of the stand:

Number three, I didn't put on the stand and therefore didn't take a picture of, however I do have a jpeg copy so here it is, when it printed onto the fabric however, the black turned a very dark blue so not sure how this one is going to come out in the crosses when I pick it up next Monday:

Thanks for looking and don't forget to check back for my other fabrics and finished garments.

Finished dress ish...

I loved making the outer pieces with the manipulation but when I finally put it all together I decided that I hated it.

What is your opinion?

My model said that the tutors looked happy when they saw it but I'm not convinced. I just thought it looked like a massive ball of candy floss. It was rushed too so the straps and inside layer is badly sewn but the outside bit is sewn fine lol.

Anyway thanks for looking.

Pretty Pink Curves...

At 3.00am this morning I finished my first manipulated panel for the dress although I'm not quite as happy as I thought I would be with it but better luck next time.

Anyway here it is:

Pattern Cutting.....

Yesterday I spent the whole day alterating my dress patterns so that they had gathering allowances. I managed to get all three panels drawn up so they just need to be traced off as pattern pieces and I also altered two panel shapes from the centre back too. I've changed my original idea of having two dress layers because I found it tricky and confusing of how to put it on the stand all the time so now I will be attaching an underneath layer directly to the top layer, all will be revealed when complete lol.

Anyway today I finally got my fabrics out on the floor and scrunched them together to see what they would look like. Here is how it came out.

fabric choices

I definitely need more fabric as there is probably only enough for the 3 gathered panels and I need probabaly double what I have in order to do the manipulated panels too.

Well tomorrow I will make up another toile and then show you some more pictures and then I can work out exactly how much fabric I need and go back to the shop to get some more.

Thanks for looking.

Learned something new...

I use a programme called photoshop at university to do illustrations and things. Anyway I learned a new trick today. It's a sort of filling in/repairing tool. I used a picture of the purple fabric manipulation I did last week and repeated it using this tool so that it looks as though it is all one piece of fabric.

Here is what I came up with.

I also changed the filters a couple of times to get different effects. Here they are.

Fabric Manipulation

Spent today manipulating fabric and a favourite of mine so far is using bottles.

plastic bottle bottoms

I cut the bottoms off the bottles to use as a grid.

You then push fabric into them and iron interfacing on the back. This means that the shape is held together by the interfacing. Here is my sample:

And here is what it looks like on the stand.

Here is a nother sample I did. I put things in the fabric this time as it was a mesh fabric so you can see through it.
