Mug Rugs

I rcently saw some items labelled 'Mug Rugs' that looked like table placemats so I thought I would make some large fabric coasters, here is my first using the heart template the size it should be... measuring a total of 7inches.

A little patriotic

I just can't get enough of this quilt pattern! Here is another heart quilt patch using some patriotic fabrics to celebrate the Queens Jubilee.

I've since turned it into a cushion by adding the large Union Jack fabric on the back.

More heart quilting

I've been at it again and made up this heart quilt panel using a slightly smaller copy of the black and white heart I recently completed. This time using my gorgeous fat quarters of chinese brocade silks. It proved to take the same amount of time as the larger one due to the nature of the fabric as it contantly frays at the edges and when trimming each section down to size it gets trapped in the cuting mat and makes a mess, anywho here is my quilted patch.

I'm not quite sure what to make it into as yet. Was thinking a cushion like the other but I think it might be nice as a bag maybe. I could make another using a different colourway maybe in the same fabrics for the reverse and line it with cotton. What do you think???

Paper Piecing

Before I went to the Scout Hut meetup in March I had barely any knowledge of what this was. All I knew was I had a pattern from a patchwork magazine I wanted to try.

Polly kindly explained how it worked whilst she completed some nautical squares and although it sounded easy, however a little fiddly when trying to keep the fabrics in the right place from the wrong side.

Anyway I have finally given it a go with this pattern which started smaller than A4, I have blown it up to A3 for each piece and made it big enough to fit a small IKEA cushion. All it needs is a backing as I have since given it a good press and added black strips around the edge. Pictures are Back - where you stitch onto the paper, front - finished panel, close-up of centre.

I absolutely love it and will be digging through my fabric stash to make more. I used a black and white fat quarters bundle from hobbycraft to make this one which included the white and black plain fabrics too. I should be able to make another cushion with the same fabrics and have some left over for a smaller one too which is great.

Art Of Quilting - Patch 2

Here is the second patch for the Art of Quilting magazine.

IMAG2025

So quick and easy to make up it took no time at all. However I think the third will take a little longer.

Art of Quilting - Patch 1

Having purchased issue one of The Art of Quilting magazine, I had to subscribe, I don't know what it is but even though I can sew both by hand and by machine, I haven't really dipped into quilting. I can make simple patch quilts bordering between squares etc but I just don't understand how to make patterned panels. With this new magazine it gives you the templates to create each panel and put it together. Here is the patch for issue #1:

I have since received issues 2 + 3 however the folder I received to put them in is broken so I am waiting for a new one.
I also have some patchworking magazines with patterns for panels which I am really looking forward to trying out, one of which is a heart shape using strips of fabric, I cannot wait! Watch this space!
